A Humble Beginning with a Bold Vision
The story began in 1974 when Larry Memering, a native of Vincennes, took a leap of faith and purchased the Bahr Buick dealership located at 12th and Main streets. Though new to the automotive industry, Larry's passion and drive were clear from the start. In order to meet General Motors' requirements, he partnered with Edward "Ike" Eigenrauch from St. Louis, and together they established Ike Buick. In 1976, the business became truly family-owned when Larry and his son, Gary, acquired Eigenrauch's interest and renamed the dealership Memering Buick. This move set the foundation for what would become a lasting family business, with Larry serving as president and Gary as vice president.
Building a Legacy of Growth and Service
Within their first year, Larry and Gary constructed the current showroom and service department, setting the stage for future expansions. Over the next several decades, Memering Motorplex grew significantly, adding brands like Nissan, GMC, and Chevrolet to their lineup. This growth was complemented by the active involvement of Gary's son, Justin, who represents the third generation of Memerings to join the family business.
More Than Just a Dealership
Beyond its commercial achievements, Memering Motorplex has always placed a strong emphasis on community involvement. The dealership has supported numerous non-profit organizations and local groups, frequently hosting events like charity car washes and fundraisers. A long-time supporter of the Vincennes YMCA, Memering Motorplex sponsors the annual YMCA Memering Motorplex Golf Scramble-a community favorite that helps raise funds for local programs.
